Executing a Plan:)

Yesterday was such a fun day! I was over at my mom's house for the morning, and we decided to try and hammer out her plans for her living room/kitchen area. My brother is getting married in 3 weeks, and the reception is at my parent's house. Yikes! So my mom is dying to get everything put together beforehand. A wonderful quality my mom has is her excellent taste for design. She has so many great ideas, and has everything all set for the room! The only problem was is putting her genius plan into action:) So that is where I came to help. We sat down, made some decisions and deadlines, and let's just say this room should be rockin' in about 2 1/2 weeks!!! Just to give you a sneak peek:

(sorry about the phone pics, my camera battery died!)

Happy Memorial Day!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Memorial Day:) I think it is a great opportunity to remember those who have served our country as well as those near and dear ones who have passed. I know I have some wonderful ancestors to think about on this day, and I am grateful for their examples in my life:)

I am excited today to feature the first guest post on my blog! I was contacted by Arcadian Lighting to see if they could do a feature, and I said yes please! Their blog posts are so unique and sure to inspire beauty in any space. Enjoy!!!

Hello everyone! I'm Jessica from Arcadian Lighting, a wonderful website featuring beautiful and affordable lighting fixtures of all styles! I'm delighted to be guest posting for Kayley today because I'd like to share a collection of interiors that show off gorgeous, glamorous chandeliers, pendant lighting and other light fixtures. Just as with photography, lighting is everything when it comes to interiors. I hope you enjoy these inspiring rooms!
Glamorous Lighting
This elegant, traditional kitchen is instantly more stylish with a pair of chandeliers above the island. The seating at the end of the island is a wonderful feature for a room that is considered the heart of the home.
Glamorous Lighting
The shimmering crystal chandelier is only one of the beautiful features of this cozy kitchen. The architectural elements of this renovated kitchen are truly gorgeous.
Glamorous Lighting
Color palette is made more glamorous with a sparkling chandelier. A deep turquoise lamp provides a lovely accent color.
Glamorous Lighting
The delicate pendant light in this modern dining room picks up on the intricate woven details of the seating cushions. The glass cupboards help display the pretty white dishware.
Glamorous Lighting
A pair of modern brass table lamps definitely make a sophisticated statement on this built in desk. The retro serving cart is a fun touch.
Glamorous Lighting
This colorful room is filled with textures and patterns. The sputnik style pendant light is a perfect choice for such an eclectic room.
Glamorous Lighting
The dramatic size of this pendant light creates quite a dynamic focal point in this relaxing home. The floral details of the pendant light pick up on the tree painting on the wall.
Glamorous Lighting
A pair of dramatic black floor lamps certainly add an elegant touch to this bedroom. Such bold lighting complements the patterned bedding.  Images 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8

Decluttering 101.

My husband and I got a start today on decluttering our office and getting ready to turn it into a nursery! Secretly I really love reorganizing things:) I believe one of the most useful things I learned during my design classes was this quote by William Morris. It's my favorite:

So, that is my motto this summer as I get our little lady's room ready! I think it is a great statement to live by. Being so interested in design can also tempt one to buy good finds on sale (though there is absolutely no where to put all the bargains), or to hang on to something because it might go vintage one day. While that may be true in some circumstances, I like to just simplify. Less is more for me when it comes to beautiful pieces. If you have too many, how are they supposed to really stand out as a focal point?

I cannot wait for one day (hopefully soon) when I can invest in a nice bookshelf and organize all of my useful clutter beautifully. There are so many great examples of this all over pinterest. Here are a few I dream about at night:)

I have gotten to see this last one in person several times at Kirsten's, and yes, it is ALWAYS this fabulous and pretty!

Work work work.

This week has been full of a lot of work for me! Luckily, when it comes to interior design, work is pretty darn fun. It gives me a chance to express creativity and constantly be learning about design, detail, sourcing, and about people as I interact with clients. I consider myself fortunate to get the opportunity to work as an interior designer:)

After this lovely thought I got daydreaming about what it would be like to have a clean and pristine office. So, I put together this design board. If people had their dream office, wouldn't work be so much more fun for everyone?!?! I think so.

Urban Outfitters Finds :)

I have been looking for accessories for clients this week, and came across some FABULOUS sale items at Urban Outfitters in the Apartment Sale Section. This store is one of my favorites because their products are so unique and full of personality. What are some of your favorite unique shops you use to decorate?
